ANDERSON, Ind. — A compilation of news items from the Madison County area:

Black Expo seeking talented residents

ANDERSON — The Anderson Chapter of Indiana Black Expo is seeking talented children, youth and young adults for the Aug. 6 “Show Me Your Talent” showcase. Talents include singing, dancing, poetry, mime and playing instruments.

The first audition date has changed to Thursday, July 8, from 6-8 p.m. at the Geater Community Center, 1611 Chase St. Those interested in sharing their talents may call Tammy Sloss at 278-1724, Byvonda Hendricks-Manuel at 215-8322 or Marvin Brown at 274-9129.



Christian Center program today

ANDERSON — The Anderson Noon Exchange Club will meet 11:30 a.m. today at the Days Inn for a luncheon meeting with a presentation on the Christian Center by Holly Renz.

Guests are welcome to attend. There is no charge for first-time visitors; however, the club requests advance reservations by calling 617-5912. More information on the club can be found at www.andersonexchange.com.



AARP members’ breakfast Wednesday

ANDERSON — The local chapter of AARP 1686 will meet for breakfast at Perkins 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The regular meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 12, at Anderson Public Library. Beth Oljave from the library will speak on places in Indiana and their stories.

The chapter plans to see “Church Basement Ladies” at Beef & Boards in August, and a trip to New York in October.



Day of Christian music at Trinity Fest

FORT WAYNE — Casting Crowns, David Crowder Band and Jeremy Camp will perform July 17 at in Trinity Fest at Parkview Field. Gates open at 10:45 a.m. and the evening ends with fireworks.

‘Mary Poppins’ to fly into Murat

INDIANAPOLIS — Tickets for “Mary Poppins,” are on sale for the Sept. 23-Oct. 10 performances at the Murat Theatre.

Ticket prices start at $22. Tickets may be purchased at the Broadway Across America Box Office, The Murat Theatre Ticket Office in the Old National Centre, Clowes Memorial Hall or online at ticketmaster.com. To charge tickets by phone, call 1-800-982-2787.



Lapel Village Fair begins Friday

LAPEL — The annual Lapel Village Fair begins Friday with townwide rummage sales and daily entertainment.

Highlights include:

Friday, 4 p.m., Dan’s Fish Fry; Ford Street Church

Saturday: 7-10 a.m. Optimist Breakfast Sausage and Pancakes; 3:30 p.m., parade

Sunday: 11 a.m., Tractor Show 806 Woodward St.; 1-3 p.m. Indianapolis Colts In-Motion trailer



‘Art-ol-ogy’ exhibit to be in Portland

PORTLAND — The art exhibition “Art·ol·ogy,” a collaborative traveling show by the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and ACRES Land Trust, will be on display at Arts Place’s Portland Center, 131 E. Walnut St., from July 10 through Aug, 23. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
