POW/MIA program Friday at VFW
ANDERSON — “The missing man table” program will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday at the VFW Post 266, 3210 Columbus Ave. This program honors POW/MIAs from all branches of the service and all wars.
A country rib dinner will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. and music will be provided by AKA Ernie from 7 to 10 p.m.
Suspended doctor due in court Friday
ANDERSON — An initial hearing is scheduled at 9 a.m. Friday in Madison Superior Court 4 for suspended Elwood physician Gregory Spangler. Spangler is charged with four Class D felonies: three counts of aiding, inducing or causing obtaining of controlled substances by fraud, and one count of illegally dispensing controlled substances.
Spangler is accused of writing prescriptions for a patient using names of the patient’s family members. The Indiana Medical Licensing Board has since suspended his license to practice.
Luncheon benefits Broderick campaign
ANDERSON — A salad luncheon fundraiser for Prosecutor Thomas J. Broderick Jr. will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Democrat Headquarters, 18 W. Eighth St. Cost is $5 and carryout will be available.
Hog roast benefits Hanna campaign
ANDERSON — A Patriot Day Memorial hog roast will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at 5776 S. Ridgeview Road. The event is a fundraiser for sheriff candidate Sam Hanna. U.S. Rep. Mike Pence will be there from 3 to 4 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $10.
Shred event at Mounds Mall
ANDERSON — Mounds Mall and Secure Shred Recycling are teaming up to provide the community with a day of secure shredding services from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Documents and paper items will be shredded for a charge of $5 per bankers box size. One dollar from each transaction will be donated to the Madison County Library Fund.
Historical Society to have genealogy class
ANDERSON — A free genealogy class will be held by the Madison County Historical Society at the History Center, 15 W. 11th St.
The class is about census records, the most used resource in genealogy research, and will be held on Monday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. For more information or to reserve a spot, call 683-0052.
Pancake breakfast canceled at Frankton
FRANKTON — The free pancake breakfast that was planned for Saturday by the Frankton Fire Department has been postponed until further notice.

Business celebrates, animals benefit
ANDERSON — Fashion Bug in the Applewood Centre is celebrating its birthday Saturday. The store is asking customers to donate “birthday presents” to the Madison County Humane Society.
Suggested “presents” include scoopable cat litter, Purina kitten or dry cat chow, bleach/paper towels and name brand dry dog chow.
A few of the society’s adoptable dogs will be there from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
