ANDERSON, Ind. —
Get ready for a deep freeze.
According to the National Weather Service, Central Indiana will see its coldest temperatures in two years today.
A mass of arctic air will move into the area, combining with 10 to 20 mile-per-hour winds to bring wind chills 10 to 20 degrees below zero.
It’s issued a wind chill advisory and hazardous weather outlook for several counties, including Madison.
That advisory began at 8 p.m. Monday and ends at 11 a.m. today.
Low wind chills can lead to frost bite and hypothermia if people fail to take the proper precautions, it said.
Madison County Emergency Management Agency public information officer Todd Harmeson advised people should “stay indoors, if you can.”
“Keep doors and windows shut and close the curtains” to keep the warm air in, he said.
If you must go outside, make the trip as short as possible and dress in layers.
“It’s really cold,” Harmeson said. “If someone isn’t prepared, it could have a pretty big impact.”
He said people traveling should keep blankets and cell phones handy, in case of an emergency.
