Non-working headlight leads to meth arrests

ANDERSON, Ind. — A routine stop for a non-working headlight led to two methamphetamine arrests Thursday night.

Indiana State Police arrested Alisha Madewell, 27, of Anderson, and charged her with a Class A misdemeanor and five Class D felonies, including manufacturing methamphetamine, after pulling her over for having an burned-out headlight on her Nissan SUV.

Police also arrested her passenger, Ashley Ann Baker, 25, of Middletown.

State Trooper Rich Clay stopped the car at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night at 53rd Street and Columbus Avenue in Anderson, a release said.

After speaking with Madewell, he “became suspicious.”

Pendleton District K-9 Unit Kendrick Donald came to assist.

His canine partner, Murtaugh, sniffed out narcotics in the vehicle, leading police to find methamphetamine and the precursors used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Madewell was arrested and charged with Class D felony manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursors to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, maintaining a common nuisance and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment. She was also charged with Class A misdemeanor driving while suspended.

Baker was charged with two Class D felonies, possession of methamphetamine and visiting a common nuisance.

Both were taken to the Madison County Jail.
