The Herald Bulletin welcomes two new employees in the newsroom.
Scott Miley will serve as features/special projects editor, taking over the position held by Stacey Grosh.
In a reporting position, Brandi Watters will cover the beat of northern Madison County, including Elwood, Alexandria, Chesterfield, Daleville, Summitville and Orestes.
Miley is returning to the Anderson area where he first began his career in daily newspapers.
He was a reporter for the former Anderson Daily Bulletin leaving in 1980 for The Indianapolis Star where he was a general assignment reporter for 22 years.
He recently returned to journalism serving as editor of The Southside Times, a weekly newspaper based in Beech Grove in southern Marion County.
Miley and his wife, Alice, have three children.
“I’m eager to share the stories of Madison County residents with our readers. One goal is to show how trends and lifestyles affect our readers and, in another sense, tie the community together.”
Watters attended Purdue University before taking a job with a small, weekly newspaper in Illinois. After two months of writing sports for the Free Press Newspapers in Wilmington, Ill., Watters became head writer of The Braidwood Journal where she continued to build her career for the next year.
She began working for the Chicago Tribune as a freelance reporter where her most notable achievement was providing continuous coverage of the disappearance of Bolingbrook mother, Stacy Peterson.
“The experience of camping out in front of Drew Peterson’s home surrounded by television news vans and eager reporters is one that solidified my passion for this industry. I really enjoy being right at the heart of a big story — down in the trenches,” Watters said.
“Coming to The Herald Bulletin was an easy decision for me. I appreciate the paper’s emphasis on community news and its ability to feather in pertinent national news. Few daily newspapers strike this balance so well and I’m excited to be a part of this team.”
Scott Underwood, managing editor of The Herald Bulletin, said Watters and Miley are key editions to the newsroom.
“Brandi brings energy and talent, and Scott is a journalist with a great set of experience and creative ability,” Underwood said.

Handicapped murder convict alleges prison discrimination
Since October 2006, Donald Lock has been confined to a wheel chair because of a degenerative bone disease. He has spent time at correctional facilities throughout the state, but it wasn’t until he was transferred to Pendleton earlier this year that he said he felt his disability was ignored.
