11 a.m.: State releases AYP reports

Anderson Community Schools failed to meet federal academic improvement standards for the third consecutive year, even though three schools received passing marks, according to data released Tuesday by the Indiana Department of Education.

Forest Hills, Valley Grove and Eastside elementary schools each received sufficient Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) reports, the annual improvement evaluations conducted since 2002 under the No Child Left Behind Act.

Anderson Community Schools as a whole, however, was the only school district in Madison County to not meet AYP.

Elwood Community Schools met standards this year after falling short a year ago because of low English scores among special education students. The Elwood school district made progress despite two schools not meeting AYP in 2007: Edgewood Elementary School and Elwood Community Middle School.

In the Alexandria Community School Corporation, Alexandria-Monroe Intermediate School failed to meet AYP for the fifth consecutive year.

And in the southern part of the county, only East Elementary School made AYP. Other schools in the South Madison Community School Corporation all fell short, but the district as a whole met its improvement goal.

All schools in Frankton-Lapel Community Schools met AYP.

Across Indiana, 54 percent of public schools and 84 percent of school corporations met AYP for 2007.
