AYP: Shenandoah meets standards

For the second time in five years, all Shenandoah schools met every adequate yearly progress requirement.

“We’re proud of our students and teachers,” Superintendent Ron Green said. “We’ve been relentless to see children meet these standards.”

But this does not mean the school district will end its efforts to improve. The school district has adopted its own goal of having 80 percent of all students pass the ISTEP in every category, Green said. Once the schools meet this target, officials want to bump the goal up to 85 percent of all students passing the ISTEP in every category.

“It’s a realistic goal, and I think we can do it,” Green said.

The last time the school met every AYP requirement was in 2005.

In 2002 and 2003, the school district as a whole failed to meet AYP requirements. The district did not meet English and math standards for special education students.

A different school has kept the district from meeting every AYP requirement in other previous years.

In 2006, Shenandoah Elementary School was the only school that did not meet every AYP requirement. The school did not meet the English standards for special education students.

In 2004, the middle school failed to meet English and math standards for special education.
