PENDLETON — A Pendleton woman was bitten by a small shark while on vacation in Florida.
Teresa Holloway of Pendleton was treated for lacerations to her foot at Cape Canaveral Hospital last Friday after she was bitten by the small shark, according to Orlando station WFTV Channel 9.
“She was like, ‘I can’t walk,’ so we lifted her up and we tried to get her to shore,” Holloway’s daughter, Tami Jo, told the television station.
Holloway returned to Indiana on Saturday. She could not be reached for comment Thursday.
She was on vacation in Brevard County on the east coast of central Florida, east of Orlando. The attack occurred at Cocoa Beach, where WFTV reported, two other such incidents have taken place this year.
Holloway’s son believes he saw the shark.
“He was on his way up, and he kicked it out of the way,” Tami Jo said. “But he didn’t want to stop to see what it was because my mom was yelling and stuff.”
Tami Jo said her mother’s entire foot was caught in the shark’s mouth, and she suffered a large wound.
“It was just a baby one, but I would hate to see what a big one would do,” Tami Jo said.
Holloway graduated from Anderson University, where she played softball. She is married to Tony Holloway, who coaches the AU softball team.
The Holloways have three children, Tyler, Tami Jo and Tanner.
