ANDERSON — A new restaurant is bringing more beef to the Anderson area.
Montana Mike’s Steakhouse will build its third Indiana location on Scatterfield Road, near Interstate 69, right across the street from Ryan’s Steakhouse.
Anderson’s Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved the new construction of the restaurant at its meeting Wednesday afternoon.
“I can’t wait to try it,” board member Connie Klungness said. “I’m sure it will be quite nice.”
Tim Rohrer, franchise owner in Indiana, said the restaurant chain was known for its large portions, which is more clear-cut on the Web site, where the menu touts a 44-ounce steak.
Rohrer owns the restaurants in Edinburgh and Greenfield. The chain has 26 restaurants total, including one other in Vincennes, located in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.
Stockade Companies, owner of Montana Mike’s, also owns Sirloin Stockade, which has a location in Muncie.
The Anderson location will be identical to the Edinburgh location, Rohrer said. The building will have more than 6,700 square feet of space, and three sides of the building will have signs with the logo on it.
Rohrer said he planned to hire 100 employees for the restaurant, 35 of which will be full time.
The company hopes to open the restaurant by mid-October, Rohrer said.
“Within six months, you’ll be eating steak,” Dick Donnelly, who represented Rohrer at the meeting, said. “I think you’ll be very proud of what this looks like, very proud of the product.”
The inside of the restaurant is decorated with outdoor themes, with animal mountings on the wall. Some of the mountings are animals Rohrer has hunted himself, he said.
At full capacity, the restaurant, which will have a bar, could seat 208 people.
Rohrer, who lives in Nashville, Ind., said he had always liked Anderson.
“I have good feelings about Anderson,” he said. “I feel good about where Anderson is and where it is going.”
Rohrer said the location next to the interstate and the opening of the casino at Hoosier Park were factors in his decision to locate in the city.

Certain rules govern almost all libraries: be quiet, don’t mar the pages and absolutely no food or drinks on the premises. But a small group of patrons wait until after hours, lock themselves in the back room of the Alexandria-Monroe Public Library, eat popcorn, drink soda and loudly scoff as they watch bad movies.
