ANDERSON — Interrupting a cop’s breakfast — scrambled eggs and oatmeal — led to the arrest of a local man early Friday.
Jack K. Jarvis 37, Anderson, was arrested shortly after 5 a.m. on suspicion of public intoxication, a Class B misdemeanor. He was allegedly under the effects of prescription medication at the International House of Pancakes, 1935 E. 53rd St.
“Having just placed an order for scrambled eggs and oatmeal and looking forward to consuming them,” Officer Keith Gaskill writes in his report, “I looked up and noted (Jarvis) with his female companion staggering around the smoking section of the IHOP restaurant at 53rd and Scatterfield.
“I inquired of the waitress if a cab were coming to carry the couple home and was informed that one had been offered but the two refused,” the report continues.
Gaskill then watched as Jarvis tried pouring a cup of coffee for the woman, but had a poor time doing it. The woman was named in the report.
“I recognized, based on my training and experience, the female was exhibiting signs of depressant overdose and decided I must investigate,” Gaskill writes.
The woman told the officer she had taken “several” Soma, a prescription muscle relaxant. Jarvis admitted to taking Loratab, a prescription pain medication.
“I determined it would be necessary to seize any further liberty the two might enjoy for the safety of the general public as well as their own safety,” Gaskill writes.
Jarvis was taken into custody, but the officer called an ambulance for the woman. Her condition wasn’t available late Saturday. Jarvis was released on his own recognizance about 12 hours later.
It wasn’t clear in the report if Gaskill ever got his scrambled eggs and oatmeal, however.
