BIBLES: Local man part of detained group

CHESTERFIELD — One of those involved in the missionary effort to China was a Chesterfield man.

Forrest Presnell “Pres” Higginbotham, 78, and his grandson, Stephen Constantinou, 15, of New Jersey, were among four American Christians who had 300 Bibles confiscated by Chinese authorities as they arrived about 3 p.m. Sunday.

Higginbotham was reported safe in Thailand, officials said Wednesday.

The group members, part of Visions Beyond Borders, refused to leave the airport in southeast China until the Bibles were returned.

In Madison County, Higginbotham works in prison ministry among other Christian services.
