FRANKTON — Frankton residents having repair work done to their water lines will now see a $50 city meter inspection fee.
During Monday’s Frankton Town Council meeting, the council voted to begin inspecting meters after work was completed, sending the bill to the homeowner.
According to Councilman Howard Sowers, the ordinance arose out of necessity. “When people were having contractors or someone come out and do repair work on the property owners’ side up to meters, they were getting into our meters and we never did go out and inspect it after they did the work.”
Meters will now be inspected at a cost of $50 per inspection. “It sort of protects the homeowners and the town,” Sowers said.
Also during the meeting, the council decided not to take action on Anderson’s resolution to increase the county option income tax. “The way we feel, it’s a small percentage and I think that has to be passed by Oct. 1 and as of right now, we’re not going to do any voting on it.”
Elwood City Council will cast the deciding vote on whether to increase COIT during its Sept. 15 meeting at City Hall at 6:30 p.m.
In other council news:
— Council heard from Jeff Alexander, president of the Frankton Heritage Days committee. The festival, which will be held Sept. 19, 20 and 21, will require the closure of two Frankton streets. Washington Street will be closed from Sigler Street to Walnut Street on Saturday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. for the car show. Walnut Street will be closed between Washington and Church streets for the fish fry on Saturday.
