The American Legion Post 117, located at 611 W. State St. in Pendleton, will have its second annual Haunted Cabin on Oct. 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31. Operating hours are as follows: from 8:30 p.m. to midnight Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25, and from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Halloween night.
Lights On Time will be offered again this year on Saturdays (Oct. 18 and Oct. 24) from 7 to 8 p.m.
Cost of admission is $7 during regular hours and $2 during lights-on hours.
Additionally, on Oct. 24, WFMS 95.5 will be broadcasting live from the parking lot from 8 to 9 p.m.
With the economy in its current state, the impact is being felt everywhere.
The American Legion organization also is suffering, a representative said in a press release.
Without continued fundraising efforts, the group may be unable to continue to honor veterans as it has in the past.
Some of the programs that the Legion participates in includes fund raising for Muscular Dystrophy Association in March and flag placement at local cemeteries for our veterans on Memorial Day.
Additionally, the American Legion Auxiliary donates money throughout the year to the Knightstown Boys Home. The Knightstown Home is an orphanage for unwanted and abused children.
The Auxiliary also sells “poppies” in May that are made by disabled veterans to help raise money for them.
Last year, funds raised from the Haunted Cabin helped keep the organization operating.
In an effort to continue the traditions they have pledged to uphold, they rely on events like this one.
The Haunted Cabin is built and manned by volunteers who desire to provide the public with a memorable experience.
This year will bring new surprises to all.
Corn hole, darts, and 8 or 9 ball pool tournaments begins Sunday.
Doors will open at noon. The tournaments are a blind draw.

Handicapped murder convict alleges prison discrimination
Since October 2006, Donald Lock has been confined to a wheel chair because of a degenerative bone disease. He has spent time at correctional facilities throughout the state, but it wasn’t until he was transferred to Pendleton earlier this year that he said he felt his disability was ignored.
