ANDERSON — A silent auction has been added to the Memorial Benefit Concert at the Sherman Street Church of God, 1925 Sherman St., set for Saturday. The auction begins at 4 p.m. followed by the 6 p.m. concert.
Psalmist DeJuana Small will be accompanied by her husband, Tony Small.
The Smalls are alumni of Anderson College and are well known in many areas of the country and abroad for their arts ministry. Tony Small was former worship arts and outreach director at Sherman Street Church of God.
DeJuana Small’s music ministry has led her to venues throughout the U.S. and abroad including Africa, England, France, Philippines and various Caribbean Islands. She nurtured the call to music ministry at a young age and began to sing publicly in her local church choir.
Tony is a 2008 Stellar song award winner, 2008 American Composer Forum Winner and 2007 Maryland State Arts composer recipient. He serves as the regional artistic director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington serving over 30,000 youth in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.
The Sherman Street and Madison Park Church choir members will join together for a ministry of songs. Selections by The Gospel Music Workshop of America Choir under the direction of Pat Raymore, along with other artists and musicians will also be in the service.
The concert is a memorial to the late Angelica C. Quashie’s unrealized dream of visiting Africa and providing support to orphans. The funds go toward the needs of African orphans with HIV/AIDS.
Lee Anne Quashie, the daughter of Dr. Leroy and the late Angelica Quashie, is spearheading this silent auction. Members of Sherman Street will be asking for donations from local businesses and organizations that can be used to raise money for the fund.
Organizations are encouraged to donate items by calling (765) 649-2548. The bidding begins at 4 p.m., two hours prior to the concert.
