KLEENCO: Questions with an employee

Travis Johnson, 32, Alexandria, has been a Kleenco project manager in the special projects division for about nine months. A 1994 graduate of Tri-Central High School, he and his wife Kristy, have a 7-year-old son and daughter, 2. Before joining Kleenco, he was working for a Carmel-based company doing excavation.

What do you do?

“I take care of erosion repairs around pond banks; make sure the ponds are well-maintained. I take care of the catch basins, make sure there’s no sink holes around them.”

Why did you decide to work for Kleenco?

“It was close to home. A great opportunity. They’re on the grow. I have a couple of friends and a cousin working here. It was something I was interested in, as far as the traveling.”

Where have you traveled as part of your work?

“Ohio, Michigan, Kansas. Our territory from this office, mainly. Basically, the north office takes care of Michigan and Ohio. And the south office (based outside Bentonville, Ark.) basically takes care of Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas for storm water.”

Why do you like it?

“It’s something new and adventurous every day. You don’t know what you’re going to be dealing with until you get there (to the job site). You don’t know where you’re going to get materials. You rely a lot on office help and computers.”

How often are you away from home?

“Five days a week, for the most part. We leave on Monday morning and come back Friday evening. It’s kind of hard on the family life sometimes; they just have to understand. We just finished a big job in Gallipolis, Ohio, and were gone for two weeks.”
