INDIANAPOLIS — Rep. L. Jack Lutz (R-East Central Indiana) recently joined the Indiana General Assembly in honoring the families of Indiana soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country, especially those fighting the war on terrorism.
In a resolution, the Indiana General Assembly offered gratitude and prayers to the families of the 152 fallen men and women from Indiana. As part of the ceremony, the families were invited into the House chamber for the reading of the resolution. Following this reading, the names of the soldiers were read and Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, adjutant general of the Indiana National Guard. spoke before the assembly.
“Many Hoosiers have lost their lives serving our country since the September 11th terrorist attacks,” said Rep. Lutz. “Honoring the families of these brave Hoosiers is just a small way to show them our appreciation. We could never do enough to pay these families back for the sacrifice they have made, but today we offer them our prayers and undying gratitude.”
Rep. Lutz represents parts of Madison, Tipton, Delaware, and Hamilton counties. The names of eight soldiers from Madison and Hamilton counties were read to the House.
Madison County
• U.S. Marine Corp Reserves Lcpl. Matthew R. Smith, age 20. Matthew gave his life on May 10, 2003, in Kuwait.
• Army Sgt. Robert E. Colvill Jr., age 31. Robert gave his life on July 8, 2004, in Iraq.
• Army Spc. Raymond L. White, age 22. Raymond gave his life on Nov. 12, 2004, in Iraq.
• Army Pfc. Jason D. Johns, age 19. Jason gave his life on Feb. 21, 2007, in Afghanistan.
• Army National Guard Sgt. Brian K. Miller, age 37. Brian gave his life on Aug. 2, 2008, in Iraq.
Hamilton County
• Army National Guard Sgt. Armand “Luke” Frickey, age 20. Armand gave his life on Jan. 6, 2005, in Iraq.
• Army Pfc. Robert W. Murray, age 21. Robert gave his life on April 28, 2005, in Iraq.
• Army National Guard Sgt. Gerald J. Cassidy, age 32. Gerald gave his life on Sept. 25, 2007, in Iraq.
