Culver’s hosts benefit day for Dove Harbor
ANDERSON — Culver’s of Anderson is donating 10 percent of all sales on Tuesday, May 12, to Dove Harbor Women & Children’s Shelter.
Drive-Thru & Dining Room sales from the entire day will benefit the fund raising event!
Dove Harbor is a transitional shelter program for women and children in Madison County, serving up to 10 families at a time.

Obama to campaign in Indy on May 17
INDIANAPOLIS — President Barack Obama will be in Indianapolis the night of May 17, following an appearance earlier that day in South Bend for the Notre Dame commencement.
Obama will attend a fundraiser for Indiana Democratic Reps. Joe Donnelly, Andre Carson, Baron Hill and Brad Ellsworth, according to a person with knowledge of the visit who spoke on condition of anonymity Friday night because the White House had not yet made an official announcement.
Obama’s appearance at Notre Dame has been criticized by some Catholics because of his support for abortion rights and embryonic stem-cell research.
Gang member sentenced in shooting
FORT WAYNE — A known gang member whom authorities have tied to four shootings was sentenced Friday for attempted murder.
Judge Fran Gull, in Allen Superior Court, sentenced Anthony Parish to a total of 40 years in prison, the result of the Oct. 1 shooting of Andrea L. Terrell as the man sat in a car driven by Patrick Long.
Cause not found for fire at lake homes
ANGOLA — Investigators say they have not found a cause for the fire last weekend that destroyed five homes and damaged three others along northeastern Indiana’s Lake James.
Angola Fire Department spokesman T.R. Hagerty says there was so much damage to the buildings that what sparked the blaze might never be determined.
Flooding closes schools, roads
FRANKFORT — Officials have closed schools for the day in the central Indiana city of Frankfort because of high water from heavy rains.
City Police Sgt. Wes Hickson says the Frankfort High School parking lot had three to four feet of water Friday morning. Sandbags have been placed around the doors of the high school in the city about 40 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
Fatal crash ends police chase
MICHIGAN CITY — Indiana State Police say a 16-year-old motorist fleeing police struck a minivan driven by a 78-year-old man, killing him.
State police say the 16-year-old Michigan City girl fled after the 1994 Volvo she was driving was stopped for a traffic violation Thursday morning.
Sentencing in Parke County murders set
NOBLESVILLE — A judge has set May 29 for sentencing of a Parke County man who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting his wife and two stepdaughters.
The prosecution has asked for the death penalty against Chad Cottrell, who asked that he be executed when he pleaded guilty in March.
Cottrell admitted killing 29-year-old Trisha Cottrell, 12-year-old Brittany Williams and 10-year-old Victoria Williams at the family’s rural Rockville home in 2005.
