ANDERSON, Ind. —
The power of peace has never been sweeter.
Good’s Candy Shop is hosting its first-ever Good’stock Saturday — 10 hours of music, family fun and ice cream, shop owner Randy Good said.
This event is one of several the shop hosts each year to give back to the community, he said.
“We’ve been incredibly fortunate over the years,” Good said. “The community has been so good to us that we like to reciprocate any chance we can get.”
The idea started with the name and went from there with a focus on grooves and goodies. From noon to 10 p.m. there will be four bands performing at Good’s outdoor stage. The music will range from Woodstock-era to country to 1980’s rock ’n’ roll.
In addition to the music, Good’s will be offering the normal sweet fare along with some hippie-inspired specialities like psychedelic tie-dyed ice cream made especially for Good’stock. They will also be serving other food throughout the day so families can come out and spend the day at the event.
Activities for kids include face painting and games. And adults are also encouraged to get in on the fun, Good said. There will be costume contests for all ages for those in “period” costumes from the ’60s and ’70s. Good’s employees will be paving the way wearing wigs, bell-bottoms, tie-dyed shirts and other hippie garb, Good said. There will be trophies for the winners during the contest judged at 6 p.m. and door prizes that contest participants will be entered to win.
“This is free fun for the entire family,” Good said. “This is a great, fun event you can come out to with friends and family and listen to good music and eat some great food. Woodstock was a period of nature appreciation, self-reflection and total freedom. We are going to try to reflect that.”
In addition to the food and activities, the shop made T-shirts with the Good’stock theme — peace, music and ice cream — will be for sale.
Those coming to Good’stock should bring their own chairs for the outdoor concert.
Dog Days of Summer will be the following weekend — from noon to 4 p.m. July 24 at the shop. Dogs are welcome at the shop with their owners in tow. There will be competitions with prizes, free pictures of pets with their owners and free ice cream for the dogs.
Kids’ Day is from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 7 where kids get free ice cream and grandparents’ day is coming up in September.
“We want to do something for every member of the family at some point throughout the year where they get a free ice cream cone,” Good said.
