Indiana 13 project begins at Fortville

FORTVILLE — Crews from Sunesis Construction Co. will mobilize next Monday to begin initial work on the Indiana 13 Major Moves Project that extends from Indiana 67 to Fortville’s north corporate limits at the Madison County line. The Indiana Department of Transportation will close the roadway to traffic on that day or soon afterward.

The scope of the $5 million construction project calls for widening driving lanes to 12 feet, adding paved shoulders, placing a new storm sewer trunkline, replacing the large culvert at Stottlemeyer Ditch, laying new water lines and building ADA sidewalks with curbs, gutters and underdrains. In addition, the grade at the CSX railroad crossing will be moderated. Between Alden and Brook Drives, Indiana 13 will be widened to accommodate a turn lane.

INDOT’s official detour will route motorists along Indiana 67 though Pendleton and on to Interstate 69 then back to Indiana 13. The winter work schedules call for: installation of the culvert at Stottlemeyer Ditch; placement of new water lines and fittings from Michigan Avenue North to the county line; and excavation and placement of storm sewer lines from Michigan Avenue to the county line.

Residential traffic and access to businesses will be maintained.
