Church to hold family day
ANDERSON — New Birth Worship Center, 403 W. 22nd St., will celebrate Family and Friends Day Sunday at 10:30 a.m. There will be communion followed by a fellowship dinner in the Fellowship Hall. The public is welcome. Pastor is the Rev. Earlie Dixon.
Civil War Roundtable to be held Monday
ANDERSON — The Civil War Roundtable will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Madison County History Center, 15 W. 11th St. Monday’s discussion will center on causes leading to the start of the Civil War. The opinions of Gary Gallagher, professor and historian at the University of Virginia, will be discussed. Gallagher has written many books on the Civil War.
World AIDS Day service on Dec. 1
ANDERSON — The AIDS Awareness Ministry of St. Mary’s Church in Anderson will host its annual World AIDS Day Community Prayer Service at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in the St. Mary’s Church Annex at the corner of 11th street and Fletcher streets.
The theme will be “Universal Access to Health Care as a Human Right.” Dr. Clark Butler, professor of philosophy, director of the Human Rights Institute, Purdue University, at Fort Wayne, will be the presenter. A section of the National AIDS Quilt will be on display. A special section of quilt honoring Gary Manifold and James Toloday, founders of Living with AIDS and Dignity, will also be displayed. All are welcome.

Anderson man dies at Monroe Reservoir; 3 others arrested
Memorial Day weekend took a tragic turn Saturday evening as an Anderson man visiting Monroe Reservoir died. Three other Anderson men were arrested later that day following the death of Matthew Hosier, 29.

Handicapped murder convict alleges prison discrimination
Since October 2006, Donald Lock has been confined to a wheel chair because of a degenerative bone disease. He has spent time at correctional facilities throughout the state, but it wasn’t until he was transferred to Pendleton earlier this year that he said he felt his disability was ignored.
