ANDERSON — The Board of Public Works on Tuesday rescinded two bids for more than $90,000 each to renovate a property at 1302 Indiana Ave. The bids, which were the second round for that property, were too high for the project, Community Development specialist Amber Lewis-Lilly said. The Community Development Department will re-evaluate how to accomplish the project.
Also at the meeting, the board recommended acceptance of the project that remodeled Fifth Street through the Anderson University campus.

Police: Boy left in car, dad goes to strip club
INDIANAPOLIS — A Franklin man was arrested after police say he left his 5-year-old son in a tractor-trailer while he ducked into an Indianapolis strip club to drink.
The 39-year-old was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on child neglect and public intoxication charges after calling police to report his truck stolen and his child missing.
Indianapolis police: Boy had fake gun
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Police say a 14-year-old who was shot at by a trooper did not have a real gun as initially was believed.
The trooper pulled over the boy for speeding on Saturday on Indianapolis’ west side. Police say the boy was acting nervous, reaching under his seat and struggling with the trooper outside the car before getting back in and taking off.
The trooper says he saw what he thought was a gun under the driver’s seat and opened fire, blowing out two of the vehicle’s tires.
Police say the replica was realistic-looking.
1st Sgt. Dave Bursten says “if somebody pointed a handgun like what I saw on the floorboard of that car at me, if they pointed it at me, I would shoot them.”
The boy is charged with battery of a police officer and disorderly conduct.
