INDIANAPOLIS — State Rep. Jack Lutz (R-Anderson) is encouraging local students to apply for the Statehouse Page Program. The Indiana House of Representatives offers the chance for students between the ages of 13 and 18 to come into the Statehouse to both interact and get a firsthand experience of what a full day is like involving legislative activity.
“I feel that it’s important to have students visiting our wonderful Statehouse building while learning about the rich history of our state and its legislative bodies that all work under one roof,” said Rep. Lutz. “It is also important that our youth have a better understanding of what goes on in the House, Senate and Supreme Court chambers. The fact that the kids have an opportunity to sit in on floor sessions and committee meetings is very unique and a memory they can look back on and share with others in the future. ”
Pages will have a variety of opportunities to tour the Statehouse building, including a walk through the governor’s office and the Indiana House, Senate and Supreme Court chambers. Pages will also be given the chance to witness committee meetings and floor sessions that take place throughout the day. Pages will get to assist Rep. Lutz with his daily activities and duties during their visit as well.
Pages that choose to take advantage of this opportunity will have an excused day of absence from their school. Pages will be responsible for finding their means of transportation both to and from the Statehouse. Availability fills up fast so interested students are encouraged to make an appointment as quickly as possible.
