ANDERSON, Ind. —
A teenage driver died early Sunday after his car hit a tree on Fifth Street west of Nursery Road.
Anderson police received a call at about midnight advising of the accident, according to the Anderson Police Department.
Fire Department paramedics found that the driver, Derrick Wilson, 18, of Anderson had died from his injuries in the accident. A juvenile male passenger was taken to Community Hospital. He suffered minor injuries and was soon released, according to the police report.
Police said they are still investigating the accident, and as of Sunday did not know what caused Wilson to veer off the road and strike a tree.
According to Madison County Coroner Ned Dunnichay, Wilson died from a blunt force injury to the head and the chest.
Assisting in the investigation were Indiana State Police and the coroner. The Madison County Emergency Management Agency assisted with traffic.
According to reports on a social networking website, Wilson attended Anderson High School.
