ANDERSON, Ind. —
Anderson city officials won’t comment on rumors of a central Indiana business possibly expanding in Anderson.
Monday, Jeb Conrad, Kokomo Economic Development Alliance director, said that Kokomo, along with Anderson, Greenwood and Indianapolis, were in the running as the spot for an expansion of Backhaul Direct, an Indianapolis logistics firm.
Rob Sparks, executive director for Anderson’s Corporation for Economic Development, declined to talk any specifics.
“I think the official response is that we just don’t talk about project names,” he said. “It is never helpful for anybody, no matter what we are doing. It is insensitive for the company and the process being played out.”
Chamber of Commerce President Kyle Morey also declined to comment on the announcement made by Conrad. A message left with Anderson Economic Development Director Linda Dawson went unreturned.
Up to 137 office jobs for the firm are at stake. The company specializes in filling unused shipping space on long-haul semis.
Conrad said a decision on the expansion is probably still months away.
