Garden club plans annual picnic
ELWOOD — The Alexandria SmallTown Garden Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday for its picnic at Dan and Tina Wilson’s, 11897 N. Ind. 37, Elwood (behind McClure service station).
The program is master gardener Jill Dinsmore, who has experience in arranging flowers from the yard or the grocery. Members are asked to bring a covered dish and own chairs; guests are welcome. If you have any questions, call Donna Townsend, 724-7564 or Marilyn Lenhart, 724-7999.
VFW to host Awareness Day
ANDERSON — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266, 3210 Columbus Ave., will host a Veterans Community Awareness Day and bike ride Saturday. The day will begin with breakfast at 8:30 a.m., sign-up for bike riders from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with the bike ride to begin at 10:45 a.m.
A beef noodles dinner will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. Vendors start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Awareness items including diabetes, skin cancer, hearing care, sight care and medical supplies will be available.
Church rummage sale Saturday
PENDLETON — The Full County Gospel Church will have a rummage sale beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday at Falls Park Plaza on Indiana 67. In case of rain, the sale will be conducted inside Suite 16. The group will also offer hot dogs and soft drinks for $1.50.
New Berean picnic Aug. 1 at park
ANDERSON — New Berean M. Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Fellowship Sunday in the Park at Mounds State Park. Fellowship service begins at 10:15 a.m. Sunday and the public is welcome. Dr. James Streeter is pastor.
Free senior movie matinee at mall
ANDERSON — On Monday, at 10 a.m., At Home Assisted Living Services, Mounds Mall, Mounds Mall Theatre and Universal American will sponsor a free movie matinee for the seniors in the community. Accompanying friends and family are welcome and free as well.
Giveaway drawings will take place following the movie with prize packages from mall merchants. Concessions will be open to purchase food.
Veteran to discuss Battle of Iwo Jima
PENDLETON — Marion F. Walker, one of very few living survivors of the World War II Battle of Iwo Jima, will discuss his experiences at the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St., at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Walker will describe his experience as one of the few who made it to the top and continued to battle throughout the rest of this campaign.
Copies of Walker’s book, “Preparing for the Rain on Iwo Jima Isle,” will be on sale at this event.
Symphony to present outdoor concert
PENDLETON — Members of Anderson Symphony Orchestra will present “A Little Night Music” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, on the lawn at 6320 Foster Branch Drive.
Tickets for the preseason fundraiser are $20 for adults, $10 for ages 12 and under, and can be purchased at the Symphony office at the Paramount, 1124 Meridian Plaza, Anderson, 644-2111.
