Community Briefs for Feb. 10

Donations continue literacy work

ANDERSON — The Anderson Public Library works to help prepare young children and their families for success in school and reading. Thanks to a $1,000 donation to the Germaine Keogh-Soto Family Literacy Fund by the late Ms. Keogh-Soto’s family, the library will be able to continue its many early literacy efforts for families with children ages 0-5.

Lowe guest speaker at Noon Lions Club

ANDERSON — Marvin Lowe, host of the “Inside Pitch,” WHBU’s Saturday morning radio show, will be the guest speaker at the Anderson Noon Lions Club meeting Thursday.

The group meets in the basement of First United Methodist Church, 12th and Jackson streets, with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting at noon. Guests are welcome.



Chili supper to benefit MCHS

ANDERSON — The Madison County SPCA Humane Society will hold its first chili supper on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 225 E. Pine St., in north Anderson. Each meal includes chili, crackers and dessert, with drinks available from the lodge.

The event includes charity raffles and 50/50 drawings throughout the evening. Tickets are $5, sold at the door or in advance at the Humane Society office, 2219 Crystal St., Anderson. All proceeds support the animals at Madison County SPCA Humane Society.



Valentine’s dinner at AMVETS post

PENDLETON — AMVETS Post 26, 939 S. Broadway, will serve a Valentine Prime Rib Dinner for Two on Saturday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per couple. Reservations are necessary by Thursday by calling 778-7224.

The Jason Ramey Band will be performing at the post from 8 p.m. to midnight. There is no cover charge. The public is welcome.



Legion to host dinner/dance Friday

CHESTERFIELD — The American Legion Post 408, 5100 Mounds Road, is having a Valentine dinner and dance on Friday. Dinner will be served from 5 to 9 p.m. Cost is $20 for New York strip steaks, potato, salad bar and roll. Other menu items will be available.

Disc jockey Randy Smith will entertain from 7 to 11 p.m. A complimentary carnation will be given to all ladies.
