Cyclist recovering after hit-and-run

ANDERSON — A 16-year-old is recovering after being struck by a car while riding a bicycle Tuesday night.

Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said Waylon Luttrell, 16, of Wilkinson, was riding southbound in the 4400 block of Columbus Ave. around 9:44 p.m. when he was struck by a blue, late model Saturn, also traveling south. Luttrell sustained injuries to his left leg and was transported by Adams Township ambulance to Saint John’s Medical Center in Anderson.

“Based on the injuries to the left leg, he was either hit from behind or side-swiped,” Richardson said.

Luttrell told police that the car continued southbound on Columbus Ave. He believes the car contained two occupants, the driver and a passenger.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Madison County Dispatch Center at 642-0221.
