Manns earns certification

Vickey A. Manns, CMA, passed the American Association of Medical Assistants CMA Certification/Recertification Examination for medical assistants on June 30, thereby earning the certified medical assistant credential.

She is a graduate of the medical assisting program at Indiana Business College and is employed by Madison County Community Health Center, Anderson.



Smith gets CMA certification

Janet A. Smith, CMA, passed the American Association of Medical Assistants CMA Certification/Recertification Examination for medical assistants on June 30, thereby earning the certified medical assistant credential.

She is a graduate of the medical assisting program at Indiana Business College and is continuing her education at Ball State University.



Malone attends African-American Leadership Summit

Anthony J. Malone, president and CEO of the Madison County Community Health Centers Inc. of Anderson, recently attended the African-American Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.

The July conference provided a forum for nearly 400 black participants nationwide to discuss a range of policy issues with members of Congress and cabinet officials. Conference participants were nominated to attend by their member of Congress, in which Malone was nominated by U.S. Rep. Mike Pence.

A host of leaders from the U.S. Senate joined senior Bush administration officials to address the Summit, including keynote speaker U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson.



Loose wins top honors in public speaking

Mark Loose, 16, of Anderson, received top honors at the 2007 Indiana State Fair competition on Aug. 11. He was presented champion in 4-H public speaking.

Mark, a Madison County 4-H member, has participated in the 4-H Youth Development Program for eight years.

He is the son of Rob and Jane Loose of Anderson and is a junior at Anderson High School.

Because of winning, he also was awarded a State Fair 4-H Achievement Trip to Washington, D.C., sponsored by the Indiana State Fair Board.



Richart achieves diabetes educator certification

Michelle Richart has achieved certified diabetes educator status from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.

As an educator, Richart instructs patients in Saint John’s Outpatient Diabetes Self-Management Program.

Richart completed the certification examination for diabetes educators and met rigorous credential and professional practice experience requirements. Achieving the CDE credential demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes.

She has been with Saint John’s for 20 years. She served for many years as a clinical dietitian.

A native of Indianapolis, she graduated from Roncalli High School. She earned her bachelor of science degree in dietetics from Marian College and her master’s in science education from Vanderbilt University.



Governor appoints Huntsinger to Indiana State board

Amy Huntsinger of Frankton was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Indiana State University by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Huntsinger, a junior public relations major, will serve a two-year term on the board.

Huntsinger is the daughter of Dennis and Cathy Huntsinger of Frankton and a 2005 graduate of Frankton High School. She is a member of Chi Omega, director of public relations for College Republicans and a Learning Community peer assistant at ISU.



Sawyer receives statewide library award

Susan Sawyer, of Anderson, has been selected to receive the Indiana Library Federation AIME Scholarship Award for 2007.

For the award to provide funding: 1) An applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate certification program for School Library Media Services. 2) The program of study must meet the current criteria as set by the Indiana Professional Standards Board. 3) An applicant is eligible for a scholarship award of up to $500.

Sawyer is currently enrolled at Indiana University, Purdue University in Indianapolis and is working toward a masters degree in library science. She has a master of science degree from the Indiana University School of Informatics, and bachelor of arts degree in journalism and Afro-American studies. She received her library media specialist certification and recently accepted a media specialist position in the Anderson Community Schools.



Jones initiated into honor society

Evan P. Jones was initiated as a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on May 7.

This honor society is solely for freshmen that have completed all semesters with a 4.0 grade point average.

He is pursuing pre-medical and bio-medical majors. He is the son of Dr. Charles and Robin Jones of Anderson.



Otto awarded scholarship

Ryan Otto, a resident of Anderson, was awarded the David B. Swager Memorial Scholarship and the John and Ellen Carruthers Scholarship from Indiana University’s prestigious Kelley School of Business.

Otto is the son of Steve and Kim Otto.



New commander assigned to Area V

Indiana State Police 1st Sgt. Mike Campbell was promoted to the rank of lieutenant to serve as the Area V investigative commander. Campbell received this promotion through written testing and a competitive interview process.

Campbell is a 27-year veteran of the Indiana State Police Department. After graduating from the Indiana State Police Academy he was assigned to the Pendleton State Police Post where he worked road patrol in Madison County. Campbell has served as a detective, gaming division investigator, white collar crime investigator and district investigative squad sergeant. Campbell was promoted in 2002 to first sergeant and has been district investigative commander for the Pendleton State Police Post until this recent promotion.

Campbell’s new duties will include coordinating investigations and supervising the detectives in Area V of the state. Area V would include the Indiana State Police Districts of Pendleton, Putnamville and Indianapolis.

Campbell resides in Frankton with his wife, Sharon.



Joannides named Melvin Jones Fellow

Olive Joannides of Anderson has been named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Club International in recognition of her commitment to serving the world community. Named for the founder of Lions Clubs International, Melvin Jones, the fellowship is the foundation’s highest honor. It is a recognition of commitment to humanitarian service.

Joannides is a member of Chief Anderson Lions Club. She recently received a plaque and lapel pin acknowledging her dedication of the foundation’s humanitarian goals. As a Melvin Jones Fellows, she becomes a part of the growing network of individuals who are committed to improving the quality of life locally and around the world.
