Woodcarving raffle to benefit charity
Charity’s Angels, a faith-based sorority in Anderson, is raffling a chainsaw carving valued at $500 on Oct. 1. This sculpture is being donated by Dan Pierce of Spirit Woodcarving, Middletown. The woodcarving is 4 feet tall, either a bear or an eagle, winner’s choice. It will be delivered free within 50 miles of Anderson. Tickets are one for $1, six for $5 or 10 for $8. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go back into the community via donations to various charities, according to a press release. Charity’s Angels has donated thousands of dollars in the past years to charities such as Saint John’s and Community Hospital Foundations, Dove Harbor, Paralyzed Vets, Stepping Stones, Relay for Life and local food pantries. Raffle tickets will be sold at the Heritage Days in Pendleton on Sept. 5-6; Atlanta Festival on Sept. 27-28, Operation Love at Shadyside Park on Sept. 20 and at the group’s hamburger flip at Cox’s Market in Alexandria on Sept. 27. Doctor to discuss multiple sclerosis
Larry Blankenship, M.D., will give a presentation on “Recognizing MS Relapses” on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Saint John’s Medical Center cafeteria, 2015 Jackson St. Of those living with multiple sclerosis, 85 percent have a relapsing-remitting course of the disease. Symptoms can come and go without warning or apparent reason, which leave many patients with questions. Each time a symptom worsens, is it truly a relapse? What is a pseudo-exacerbation and how is it treated? Are there things you can do to help avoid worsening symptoms? Those attending will be able to learn the answers to these questions. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. with the presentation starting at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration is required. Call (800) 344-4867, option 1.
Bake sale to benefit community center
The Rangeline Community Center will host a bake sale at the Anderson Walmart store on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
Money raised will benefit the center.
Church rummage set for Saturday
Faith Tabernacle Church, 226 E. 31st St., Anderson will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. All money raised will go toward the church’s building.
NJROTC to host car wash Saturday
The Naval Junior Reserve Officer Trainer Corps will host a car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ebbertt Education Center, 325 W. 38th St., Anderson. The event is a fundraiser for the group to attend field trips and competitions. All vehicles will be washed including semis and work trucks.
Back to School Bash on Sept. 6
From noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, a free Back to School Bash of North Anderson will be held at First Baptist Church, 907 N. Raible Ave. Anderson. Some of the activities will include pony rides, games, food, live musical entertainment, prizes, a car show, dunk tank, yard games and art fair.
Tenderloin Club to meet Thursday
The Tenderloin Club will meet in the dining room of the Three Pigs, 520 E. 29th St., Anderson, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
