Sept. 2: Local News Briefs

Yorktown issues boil order

The Yorktown Water Department has issued a boil order for the following areas: West Street — all residents on the west side of the street and all residents on the east side of Marsh Street.

All drinking or cooking water must be boiled at least five minutes. This order will remain in effect for the next 72 hours. Work has been required on the water main that supplies these areas and will be canceled as quickly as two good water supplies are tested, according to a news release from the town of Yorktown.

Back to School Bash set for Saturday

First Baptist Church, 907 N. Raible Ave., Anderson, will host a Back to School Bash of North Anderson from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday for the community.

Activities for this free event will include pony rides, games, food, musical entertainment, prizes, car show, dunk tank, yard games, art fair and more.



Chesterfield Council to meet Monday

The Chesterfield Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Town Hall, 17 Veterans Blvd.

Discussion will be on the 2009 budget.



Middletown community dinner Thursday

The community dinner hosted by the Middletown United Methodist Church, 625 High St., will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Takeouts will be available and there will be a freewill offering.



AHS ‘Big 60’ picnic Sept. 21

The Anderson High School Class of 1966 will have a “Big 60” picnic Sept. 21 from 1 to 8 p.m.. at Mounds State Park. The cost is $5 per person plus park entry.

Meat, soda, bottled water, serving ware and a “birthday cake” will be provided. Those attending should bring a side dish.
