Angel Food orders taken on Oct. 11
Revised ordering dates for the Middletown Church of the Nazarene Angel Food Ministry are Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. October’s distribution date will be Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. Health screenings to be offered
Madison County health care providers and health/social services agencies will be providing free health screenings and information at the annual Madison County Health Check sponsored by Madison Health Partners.
The free event will be conducted at Mounds Mall in Anderson from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. The event will move to the Leeson’s Building in Elwood on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 3 to 7 p.m.
Many free screenings will be provided, including cholesterol, blood pressure, balance, sickle-cell, hearing, body composition, skin cancer, blood sugar, colorectal cancer, bone density and stress.
Flu and pneumonia vaccinations will be administered for a nominal fee. Medicare is accepted. Individuals outside the Anderson city limits can ride the “New InterUrban” at no cost, courtesy of LifeStream Services

McCoy fundraiser Saturday, Sunday
Brandon McCoy, Madison County Council At Large candidate, will host a fundraiser Saturday and Sunday at the SmallTown USA Festival in Alexandria. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. At the red, white and blue festival at the booth, sloppy joe sandwiches and pork BBQ sandwiches will be served.
AHS open house set for Monday
Anderson High School will have its open house Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Parents will have an opportunity meet teachers and to “walk in their child's moccasins” by following a shortened version of their student’s daily schedule.
Actresses for Obama in Muncie
As part of the Canvass for Change Kickoff on Sunday, actresses Emily VanCamp and Sarah Jane Morris from the ABC drama “Brothers & Sisters” will kickoff grass-roots activities in Muncie.
The actresses will fire up volunteers across the state, spread Barack Obama’s message of change, and stress the importance of registering voters before the Monday deadline.
They will be at the Campaign for Change Office, 118 Walnut St., Suite B, at noon.
Dems, Ockomon fundraiser Saturday
The second annual Kris Ockomon/Democrat Party Jackpot Bowling (Fun)d Raiser will be held Saturday at East Side Lanes beginning at 8 p.m. This event is for the entire family. Cost is $10 per entry. Commissioners meeting canceled
The Madison County Board of Commissioners regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. has been canceled due to Election Day.The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. and will continue thereafter as scheduled; the first and third Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. unless otherwise notified.
