Gospel music worship Monday
The Gospel Music Workshop will sponsor its annual fall registration and workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Church Upon the Rock Baptist Church, 303 E. 29th St.
All guests are invited to participate in a “throwback” rehearsal of No. 1 gospel songs recorded during the late 1980s through 2002. This exercise will help new gospel singers to compare songs.
Facilitators for the sessions will be Carol “Cissy” King, Beth Davis and Jackie Raymore. All are welcome.
Church celebrates Children’s Sabbath
Central Christian Church, 10th and Jackson streets, celebrates Children’s Sabbath this Sunday. The “Light a Candle, Say a Prayer, Save a Child” 30-day prayer vigil will culminate with the Rev. Rick Vale’s lighting of the final candle and blessing shoe boxes filled with items to be given to Madison County children and teens through Operation Love. That organization's executive director, Joy Plummer, will be the guest to receive these gifts from the congregation. Central's music director, Dr. Randall J. Frieling, will lead the Chancel Choir in “Beautiful Savior” (Fettke). All are welcome.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, there will be another installment of the church’s concert series. John Huntoon, director, brings Anderson University Community Concert Band to the sanctuary for an evening of music. The band is made up of AU students and people from the community, several of whom attend Central Christian.
Congregational survey taken Sunday
First Presbyterian Church, 230 W. Ninth St., invites all to worship this Sunday at either the 8 a.m. or 10:20 a.m. service.
The congregation will be taking the U.S. Congregational Survey this Sunday in preparation for calling a new pastor.
Our Chancel Bell Choir will be ringing Meditation on Beautiful Savior, and Interim Pastor Dave Comstock will be giving the second week’s message. All are invited.
Edwards honored at Bethesda Baptist
The Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church will commemorate the second pastoral anniversary and 30th ordination anniversary of their pastor, the Rev. Floyd Edwards, on Sunday during the 11 a.m. service. Special guest speaker will be the Rev. Lloyd Edwards, twin brother of Pastor Edwards. The church is at 2124 Cedar St., Anderson.
Author to speak at AU’s Miller Chapel
On Tuesday, Brian McLaren, renowned Christian author and speaker, will be speaking in Miller Chapel at 11 a.m. for the School of Theology Chapel. MaryAnn Hawkins, dean of the chapel and associate professor of Christian mission, will lead worship. Arlo Newell will serve as chaplain-in-residence.
Free gospel sing at Pendleton church
The Old Country Full Gospel Church will be having a free gospel sing featuring the Whiteland Aires at 6 p.m. Sunday. There will be a free chili pitch-in dinner afterwards. Morning church services are at 10:45 a.m. with Pastor Rick Craig.

Rhema Ministries hosts open house
Rhema Word Ministries, where the pastor is Marcus D. Cooley, will host an open house weekend to celebrate the opening of their new ministry location at 4100 Main St. in Anderson. The weekend will kickoff with a fellowship service at 7 p.m. Saturday, with a dinner served at 6 p.m. before service. Family and Friends Day will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday with dinner served immediately following the worship service. The entire community is welcomed and encouraged to attend. The open house will also include a tour of the facility where Rhema Word Ministries will provide daycare and Child development learning services, Monday through Friday for infants 6 weeks old up to 12-year-old school age children. Before and after school care is available. This will be the second daycare location for the ministry in Anderson. The daycare also participates in the State of Indiana CCDF voucher program. Trinity Community begins Bible study
On Sunday, Oct. 26, at 9:30 a.m., at Trinity Community Church, 13801 W. Main St. (Ind. 32), Daleville, the first Sunday session of a study, “Stepping Up,” by Beth Moore of the Ladies Bible Study Class, begins. This journey explores Psalms 120 through 134. Traveling pilgrims sang their psalms both on the way to the great festivals of the Jews and as key elements of the worship at those festivals. Women who want to gain a new appreciation for the life of faith as a journey to greater fellowship with and worship of God are encourage to attend. Boyd anniversary to be celebrated
Progressive Temple of Faith Church, 2026 Hendricks St., Anderson, will celebrate the Rev. Roosevelt Boyd’s 24th anniversary with the church during the 11 a.m. morning service on Sunday. The public is invited to attend.
Tribute Quartet in concert Sunday
The Tribute Quartet will be concert at 9:30 a.m. at Southdale Nazarene Church, 530 W. 53rd St. A love offering will be taken.
Calvary Temple changes name
After 38 years of being known as Calvary Temple, 2700 W. 38th St., the congregation has chosen to change the name of the church to better reflect the mission of the church. The church will now be known as Connection Pointe. According to a press release, the name of a church can exhibit the vision and identity of its congregation. It has become a trend for churches to change their names in an effort to become more relevant and communicate better with today’s culture.
St. Mary’s hosts Eco-Mission
St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host an Eco-Mission. Father Darrell Rupiper, OMI, one of the church’s leaders on environmentalism will present “Growing Our Souls and Saving our Planet: An Eco-Mission.” Each week consists of two sessions, on Monday and Wednesday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. These sessions will be repeated on Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served following each session. The Eco-Mission will begin with the 4 p.m. Mass Saturday and will close with an organizational meeting Nov. 3. This final meeting will establish an on-going group to help plan the group’s action.
Jones takes over at Maple Grove
Rev. Susan Jones, founder and president of By His Grace Ministry, will take over the ministry at the Maple Grove Church, 675E and Nashville Road near Warrington. By His Grace Ministry is a full gospel ministry and was founded by Jones along with her husband, Jim, in 1997. In 2005, the couple established a Charlottesville church which is now under the leadership of Pastor Ron Mills. New and old friends are welcome to come and fellowship at the 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 service. Free hot dogs and refreshments will be served following the service. There will be treats for the children and in the afternoon a hayride is planned. Christ Lutheran dedicates new sign
Christ Lutheran Church will dedicate its new sign on Sunday morning, Oct. 19, at the beginning of the 10:15 a.m. worship service. Dedication will be led by the new pastor, the Rev. Dr. Gary J. Carstens. The church is at 716 Rainbow Blvd., off North Scatterfield Road.
Whiteland Aires in concert Sunday
East Side House of Prayer, 1512 E. 16th St., will host the Whiteland Aires in the 11 a.m. Sunday morning service.
The Whiteland Aires have been singing gospel music for almost 38 years, traveling around the country ministering on radio, TV, etc. The congregation extends an invitation to the community to attend and enjoy the service with worship and praise.
