In anticipation of this year’s need being even greater than any other year to date, the Fire Department is challenging all area businesses along with all area unions to collect nonperishable items that will be given to Alternatives Inc. and distributed accordingly.

Last year 10,000 pounds of food was collected and was distributed for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Food is being collected now through Friday, Dec. 18.

Nonperishable items may be dropped off at Fire Headquarters, City Hall, Central Services, and Saint John’s Medical Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 648-6618.
