ACS Parent Advisory Council meets Tuesday
ANDERSON — Janet Burrows, director of director of curriculum/professional development for Anderson Community Schools, will be the guest speaker at Tuesday’s meeting at the Parent Advisory Council of Anderson Community Schools. The group will meet at 6 p.m. at the new ACS administration boardroom (former South Side Middle School cafeteria).
The Parent Advisory Council represents Anderson Community Schools families who want to build a positive learning experience for all children, a representative said in a press release.
Flu clinic postponed
ANDERSON — The Community Home Health Service seasonal flu and pneumonia clinic scheduled for Thursday at the Geater Center has been postponed to a later date.
NAACP Beckham banquet Saturday
ANDERSON — The Madison County Branch of the NAACP announces this year’s annual Harry B. Beckham Freedom Fund Banquet in celebration of the organization’s 100 years of service. The speaker will be Hilary O. Shelton, vice president for advocacy and director of the NAACP’s Washington Bureau.
The community is invited to attend the banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Days Inn, 5901 Scatterfield Road.

AFD, Saint John’s join in food drive
ANDERSON — The Anderson Fire Department is partnering with Saint John’s Medical Center to kick off its annual food drive for the needy. In anticipation of this year’s need being even greater than any other year to date, the Fire Department is challenging all area businesses along with all area unions to collect nonperishable items that will be given to Alternatives Inc. and distributed accordingly.
Last year 10,000 pounds of food was collected and was distributed for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Food is being collected now through Friday, Dec. 18.
Nonperishable items may be dropped off at Fire Headquarters, City Hall, Central Services, and Saint John’s Medical Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 648-6618.
