The release said Wednesday morning, officers found mortar removed from the joints around cement blocks under James Pierce Jr.’s bed during a routine inspection. They also found a rope made out of sheets and “other items of interest,” the press release said.
Pierce has been held at the detention center since Nov. 18 on charges of Class B felony burglary, Class D felony theft, Class D felony possession of a firearm, Class A misdemeanor carrying a handgun without a license and two counts of probation violation. The press release said authorities are requesting that four charges be added in relation to the attempted escape: three counts of Class B misdemeanor criminal mischief and Class C felony attempted escape.
