Memorial bowling event Sept. 11
ANDERSON — The first Jason Shirley Memorial bowling event is planned from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Cooper’s Sports Bowl. Shirley died June 27, 2009, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Funds raised will go toward a headstone for his grave and a trust fund for his children.

Free prostate screenings Sept. 18
ANDERSON — Community Hospital Anderson will offer free prostate screenings from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Madison County Cancer Care Center, 1340 N. Madison Ave. The screenings will include prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood testing and digital rectal exams (DRE) of the prostate gland, performed by Onisuru Okotie, M.D., urologist.

Genealogy seminar, fair set for Sept. 25
ELWOOD — Elwood Pipecreek Genealogy Society will host its third annual Genealogy Seminar and Fair on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Family Life Center, 2535 Main St., Elwood. Guest speaker will be Curt Witcher, a nationally-accredited genealogist.
Cost of the seminar is $10. A soup/sandwich lunch will be available for $5.
The seminar/fair is also open to genealogy vendors, libraries and historical and genealogical societies. There is no charge to be a vendor.
Deadline for guest and vendor registration is Sept. 15. Registration forms are available in the Indiana History Rooms of the Anderson Public Library and the Elwood Public Library, or by calling Nancy Sumner at 639-3841.
Baby Safety Month topic at Exchange
ANDERSON — The Anderson Noon Exchange Club will hold its annual Baby Safety club meeting on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Days Inn. Mary Armstrong-Smith, Community Partners Director for Prevent Child Abuse Indiana, is the guest speaker.
A lunch buffet is included at $10 per person. First-time guests who are interested in learning more about Exchange Club, America’s foremost service club, are encouraged to attend at no charge. Childbirth material covered in class
ANDERSON — Saint John’s Birthing Center is taking registrations for the next “Prepared Childbirth” one-day class, which will be Saturday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The course provides information to empower the expectant mother and her family to make informed choices during pregnancy, labor, delivery and beyond.
