ANDERSON, Ind. — Train death is likely suicide, coroner says

ANDERSON — The death of a 21-year-old man hit by a train Thursday will likely be ruled as a suicide, Madison County Coroner Ned Dunnichay said Friday.

David Seybert was struck and killed by a train near the 1600 block of Jefferson St. at about 5 a.m. Thursday. The engineer told police that Seybert was face down on the tracks and failed to respond to several blasts from the train’s horn.

Dunnichay said his preliminary ruling was pending toxicology results.



Grief recovery workshop scheduled

ANDERSON —  First United Methodist Church, located at 12th and Jackson streets, will host a six-week grief recovery workshop on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning on Sept. 16.  

The series will be facilitated by Pauline Doty, who has served as a chaplain and pastoral counselor in hospitals, homeless shelters, and hospice programs. She is author of “Echoes of Mercy, Whispers of Hope: My Journey and A Theology of Hope.”  

Call the church office at 643-6977 to sign up for the workshop. Registration is limited to 12 participants. There is no fee, and the series is open to all.



Agricultural outlook program on Sept. 15

ALEXANDRIA —  Purdue Extension of Madison County will present a program titled  “Agricultural Outlook 2011” at 8 a.m. on Sept. 15 at the 4-H/Farm Bureau Building in Alexandria. Farm Credit Services will sponsor a hot breakfast to be served at 8 a.m. with the program to follow.

The program is free to the public and is designed to help farmers, land owners, input suppliers and those interested in agriculture make better business decisions in the coming year. The program will be presented by Dr. Chris Hurt an Agricultural Economists from the Purdue campus.



Rail crossing repair begins Monday

ANDERSON — Brown/Delaware, south of 14th Street at the railroad crossing, will be closed beginning Monday for one week as CSX repairs the crossing, according to a press release from the City Engineering Department.



Madison NAACP branch meets Sunday

ANDERSON — The Madison County Branch of the NAACP will have its general membership meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday at 1015 W. 15th St.

The agenda will include the president’s report and community concerns.
