Church Women United prayer retreat
ANDERSON — Church Women United of Madison County will have its annual prayer retreat at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Citadel, 1615 S. Meridian St.
Guest speaker will be Norma Upton of Ford St. United Methodist Church.
A pitch-in salad lunch will follow the meeting at noon. A freewill offering will be taken.

Lapel fish fry Sept. 16-18
LAPEL — The Lapel Lions Club is having its 64th annual fish fry on Sept. 16-18 at the Lions Club Building on South Main Street in Lapel. Serving times on Thursday and Friday are 4:30 to 8 p.m., and from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The adult “all-you-can-eat” ocean perch fish meal is $9. Children’s meals, fish, tenderloin and hot dogs are also available. There will be entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Festivities begin on Saturday with a parade down Lapel Main Street at 3 p.m. The theme this year is “Lapel Salutes World War II Veterans.” Anyone wishing to participate in the parade on Saturday, Sept. 18, should contact Steve Berninger at 534-4735 or Tony Pearson at 534-3074.
Chicken noodle dinner on Sept. 11
CADIZ — The Cadiz Lions Club will host a chicken noodle dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Cadiz Community Building.
There will be appearances by WFMS radio personalities Robb Feel and Deborah Honeycutt.
Those attending will be able to view an air EVAC helicopter.
A freewill offering will be taken. All proceeds go to the Cadiz Fire Department and Community Building Fund.
Learn to use garden herbs
ANDERSON — Madison County Master Gardener Association and Purdue University Extension invite you to attend Gardening Series program, Using Herbs from the Garden, from 10:30 to noon Sept. 18 at the Anderson Public Library, third floor, presented by Lynn Schocke. There will be a chance to smell fresh herbs and sample foods that use garden herbs.

Senior Day in the Park Sept. 16
ANDERSON — The Anderson Town Center will be the site of Senior Day in the Park from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16. In case of rain the event will be at the Paramount.
Those attending should bring their own lunch and entertainment will be provided by Karen Whitefield and Jerry Moss. The event is hosted by Darrell Baylor.
Father Bob’s noodles served Sept. 14
ANDERSON — The Knights of Columbus will host a chicken and noodles dinner featuring Father Bob’s homemade noodles from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14.
Cost is $7 for adults and $3,50 for children. Carryout will be available and there will be reduced prices for families of five or more.
All proceeds benefit St. Mary’s School Scholarship Fund.
