PENDLETON, Ind. —
An accident on Indiana 13 at Indiana 38 knocked power out throughout the southern part of Madison County on Tuesday and caused the postponement of Pendleton Heights’ boys basketball game against New Castle.
The power went off at the high school shortly after a foul was called during the fourth quarter of the junior varsity contest.
The school remained lit for a short time because of a generator, but with its power running low the building was evacuated before being engulfed by darkness.
With few dates remaining in the regular season, the schools agreed to reschedule the game for Feb. 23. The evening will begin with the completion of the JV game, which was suspended with four minutes remaining.
The fourth-ranked Arabians (18-2) are scheduled to play Frankton at home on Saturday and travel to Indianapolis North Central on Feb. 21.
New Castle (14-3) hosts Anderson on Friday and Monroe Central on Feb. 21.
Sectional play begins at New Castle on Feb. 28.
Anderson’s boys basketball game at Huntington North also was postponed Tuesday.
That contest originally was to be played on Jan. 13, but an ice storm that afternoon forced its rescheduling.
Snow in Huntington canceled classes Tuesday, and school system policy there mandated a second postponement.
The Indians and Vikings will try again tonight, with the junior varsity tipoff
slated for 6 p.m.
