INDIANAPOLIS — The health insurer WellPoint Inc. plans to brush up its dental coverage with the purchase of DeCare Dental, a third-party administrator that serves nearly 4 million people.
Indianapolis-based WellPoint announced the deal Tuesday but declined to reveal the price. A statement from WellPoint says Minneapolis-based DeCare serves ten dental plans and 21,000 employer groups.
WellPoint CEO Angela Braly said in the statement that the deal will help WellPoint provide dental benefits to members across the country.
WellPoint says it will offer and administer dental benefits to 9 million people once the deal is completed, making it one of the nation’s largest dental PPO networks.
