Rev. Paul Charles Hutchins

May 22, 1930 - Jan. 12, 2013

MOORESVILLE, Ind. — The Rev. Paul Charles Hutchins, 82, Mooresville, formerly of Anderson, died Jan. 12, 2013.

Born to George and Virginia (Evans) Hutchins in Bryant, Ark., on May 22, 1930, Paul was the youngest of five, with three older brothers and one sister.

At the age of seven he moved to Eureka, Calif., with his family where he grew up and graduated from Eureka High School. He played center on the high school basketball team and was a drum major for the marching band.

For college he chose Pacific Bible College (now Warner Pacific College) in Portland, Ore., where he earned a B.Th, in preparation for pastoral ministry. Later he earned an M.A. degree from Anderson School of Theology and another M.A. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. He spent 16 years in pastoral ministry, interspersed with 18 years of mission service in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and later in East Africa, living in Kenya but ministering also in Uganda, Tanzania and the Congo.

For eight years he served on the National Mission Board of the Church of God, including a year as vice president and then three years as president, which included travel to Latin American, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Following the years in East Africa he returned home to begin an 18-year period of outreach to International Students in the U.S.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three older brothers, Bill, Norwood, and Jim, as well as his oldest daughter, Gayle Hutchins Gossett.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Nova Peterson Hutchins, whom he married Dec. 22, 1951; daughter, Cynthia Hall; son, Ronald Hutchins (wife, Deana); daughter, Lynnova Reynolds (husband) Doug and four grandsons, Jonathan Hall, Benjamin, Gunner, and Travis Hutchins. He also has one surviving sister, Virginia Lester; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Mooresville Church of God, 218 E. Main St., Mooresville, Ind., Saturday, January 19, 2013, 11 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. Dr. Barry Callen, Dr. Bob Edwards, and the Rev. Ron Crump will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Church of God Missions, Anderson, or to the Mooresville Church of God.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Carlisle–Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.
