Ruth M. Leedom

Oct. 6, 1916 - Feb. 1, 2012

ANDERSON, Ind. — Ruth Maurine (Pettigrew) Leedom, 95, of Anderson, died Feb. 1, 2012, at Keystone Woods Assisted Living after an extended illness.

Ruth was born on Oct. 6, 1916, in Anderson to Vier and Bertha (Swinford) Pettigrew.

She retired in 1977 after 20 years at Warner Press and was affiliated with the Church of God.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going to Lake George, her retirement in Florida for 23 years, watching sports, puzzles, playing cards, reading and laughing. She loved animals especially her cat, Lily.

She is survived by her four children, Renee Ginley of Anderson, Cynthia (Tom) Williams of Huntsville, Ala., Charles (Aino) Leedom of Falls Church, Va., and Sherry Barker of Indianapolis; her grandchildren, Lisa (Rob) Spaulding, Ty (Robin) Ginley, Lonnie (Lance) Carpenter, Pat (Janet) Ginley, Leslie (Bob) Wilson, Libby (Marc) Scharnowske, Laura Smith, Alisha (Joe) Provenzano, Amber (Mike) Lawson, Robert Williams, Kira, Erik and Andrew Leedom, Emily (Josh) Krueger, Amy Barker and Hillary (Jamison) Downs; her great-grandchildren, Eli (Ashley), Elise (Gerald), Ethan, Evan, Logan, Luke, Layne, Nathan, Natalie, Gray, Greer, Ian, Nigel, Zoë, Samantha, Ty, Tanner and Sienna; her great-great-grandchildren, Grace and Bennett, and expecting the arrival of a third this year; special friend, Ferneva Perkins of Anderson; brothers-in-law, Everett Leedom and Tom Marvel; sister-in-law, Phyllis Leedom; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband of 63 years, C. Melvin Leedom, whom she married April 17, 1938, passed away on July 19, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Guy, John, Rex and Joe; and sisters, Mae and Marybelle.

A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Madison County Humane Society.
