Irene Jackson

Nov. 11, 1918 — Dec. 1, 2012

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — Irene Jackson, 94, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Community Hospital Anderson, after a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Owen County, Ind., the daughter of Elza and Rosa (Keller) Cooksey, and had resided in the Alexandria area for past 60 years.

Irene was a homemaker who devoted her life to the care and nurturing of her family.

She attended Alexandria First Baptist Church for several years. She was a charter member of the former Alexandria Association of Widowed People. Irene was also a 50-year member of the former Alexandria Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making quilts and draperies for all of her family. Irene was a gentle spirit; her beautiful smile will be warmly and fondly remembered.

Survivors include her son, James Arthur (Sharon) Jackson of Alexandria; her daughter, Linda Himes of Anderson; five grandchildren, Tammy (Dan) Humbert of Fort Wayne, Teresa (Scott) Curry of Troy, Mont., Terry (Rhealene) Hobbs of Brownsburg, Andy (Rene) Jackson of Fishers and John Jackson (companion, Jamie Shows) of Bowling Green, Ky.; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Curtis Jackson, who died in 1981; eight brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, officiated by the Rev. Clifton Richardson. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery, Alexandria.

Friends may call two hours prior to Tuesday services at the funeral home.  

Memorial contributions are suggested, to be made through the funeral home, to Alexandria First Baptist Church.
