GASTON, Ind. —
Merle D. Farmer, 50, Gaston, died Nov. 25, 2012, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born March 24, 1962, in Anderson, the son of Norman Dee Farmer and Shirley (Bangle) Farmer, and was a lifetime resident of Alexandria.
Merle was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School-Class of 1980. He had worked for E&B Paving Co. of Muncie since 1986. Merle’s primary job at E&B was hauling heavy equipment on his red low-boy truck. The car and driving of that tractor/trailer gave him much pleasure and pride.
Farming was in Merle’s blood and he took enjoyment in being a part of the family farm operation. He collected John Deere collectibles and enjoyed going to the 4-H Fair, especially for the “junk food.”
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Farmer of Alexandria; longtime companion, Mary Fowler of Gaston; brother, Terry (Ronda) Farmer of Gaston; son, Cameron Farmer (Nicole Brown) of Muncie; daughter, Haleigh Farmer of Frankton; stepson, Joey Farmer of Anderson; two nieces, Shelby Farmer and Stacie Farmer of Gaston; aunts and uncles, Jim and Nora Cleaver and Ray Reed, all of Alexandria, Curt and Linda Green of Fort Wayne, and Connie and Roger Thompson of Bradenton, Fla.; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2011.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Young officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Madison County 4-H Association or Community VNA Hospice through the funeral home.
