ELWOOD, Ind. —
Charles Eugene Church, 94, of Elwood, died March 14, 2013, at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood.
He was born Aug. 2, 1918, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., the son of Charles and Cordia (Duncan) Church. He was a machine repairman for Perfect Circle Corp. in Tipton after more than 30 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a 1937 graduate of Summitville High School, and served in the U.S. Army in World War II receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star. Gene married Wilma Jane Hinds on Aug. 12, 1949. He was a member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge 230 and First Missionary Baptist Church.
His family includes a daughter, Jane (husband Mike) Tracy of Elwood; son-in-law, Dick Reynolds of Elwood; granddaughter, Sarah (husband, Chad) McCorkle; two grandsons, Aaron Reynolds and Kurt (wife, Cheryl) Scharff; three great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; sister-in-law; two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter, Dixie Reynolds; brother, Joe Church; and three sisters, Dorothy Elsworth, Thelma Castor and Betty Daugherty.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with the Rev. Josh Carney. Burial will be in Elwood City Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The family requests memorials be made to the First Missionary Baptist Church.
