Lowell E. Hardacre

June 1, 1933 - July 20, 2010

ANDERSON, Ind. — Lowell E. Hardacre, 77, of Anderson, died at his residence on Tuesday, July 20, 2010.    

Lowell was born June 1, 1933, in Anderson, to H. Wilber and Flora (Rayl) Hardacre. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1951 and from Indiana University in 1955. At I.U., he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and Singing Hoosiers.  

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1955 to 1957 during the Korean War.

He was general manager of Best Ever Dairy of New Castle, for nine years, and general manager of Med-O-Bloom Dairy in Kokomo, for nine years.

He was president of East Side Jersey Dairy/Best Ever Dairy until the dairy was sold to Prairie Farms in 1986, and he was general manager of Prairie Farms until his retirement.

He was an active member of Cottonwood Christian Church in Morgantown. He grew up in First United Methodist Church and was recently attending Madison Park Church of God. He was past president of Anderson Country Club, a director of the board of Anderson Banking Co. He was a member of Hoosier Cruisers. He was on several dairy industry organizations.

He served on the board of directors in the 1990s and the Joint Conference Committee at Community Hospital.

He loved spending time at Lake Lemon and was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda (Nighbert) Hardacre of Anderson, whom he married Jan. 4, 2010, in Mount Dora, Fla.; stepmother, Martha Hardacre of Anderson; three children, David L. (Cheryl) Hardacre, Lori J. (Tim) Swanson, and Amy S. (Ronald Jr.) Stohler, all of Anderson; three grandchildren, Brandon Hardacre, Sarah Stohler and Matthew Stohler; three stepchildren, John W. (Julie) Armington of Anderson, Chad (Angela) Hovermale of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Molly Hovermale of Indianapolis; two brothers, William (Ann) Hardacre and Jerry (Carol) Hardacre, all of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Hardacre, who died April 2, 2009.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Lowell Hardacre requests donations be made to the IU Simon Cancer Center for Multiple Myeloma Research.
