She was born in Ovid in 1916, the daughter of Glen “Pop” Sears and Jennie Ruth (Stanford) Sears, longtime residents of Pendleton and Lapel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas of Anderson, to whom she was married 68 years; and sister, Jane Walker of Arcadia, Calif.

Co. relocated.  In 1956 she and Tom moved to Arcadia, Calif., where she worked for the City of Arcadia, retiring after 17 years as the purchasing agent. Her retirement years were spent in Desert Hot Springs.

Irene enjoyed sewing hobbies. She and a friend created the braided rug that adorns the entry of the Pendleton Historical Museum.  She was an expert quilter, with articles published in quilting magazines about her work.

She created many outstanding quilts and wall hangings for family, relatives and friends.

Burial will be in Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton at a later date.
