Brian M. Eckstein

May 19, 1971 - Nov. 21, 2011

MUNCIE, Ind. — Brian M. Eckstein, 40, died suddenly at his home on Nov. 21, 2011, from complications of his lifelong medical impairments.

Brian was born May 19, 1971, in Anderson, the son of C. Michael and Patricia (Chaille) Eckstein. He was a 1990 graduate of Yorktown High School, and then earned his degree in telecommunications from Ball State University.

His unique gift of music was recognized at an early age and it soon became his life’s passion. He started in radio as a Yorktown High School band student, and volunteered at KZ105 and WBST (Indiana Public Radio). While at WBST he worked many positions and was currently the station’s production manager. Brian had a positive impact on all who met him both in person and through the radio.

Throughout his youth as well as adult life he shared his musical talents and inspired those in attendance at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

The family wishes to thank the many people who assisted Brian through the years with his transportation needs and for their current outpouring of support during this time of grief.

Twice Brian’s life was extended through the miracle of kidney organ donation. His first was at the age of 12 from his father, Mike; and his second from a special family friend, Lee Ann Mengelt, in 2005.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Eckstein; his sister, Lisa Eckstein, and her husband, Mike DeBruyn of Gaithersburg, Md.; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2001; both of his maternal grandparents, John and Mildred Chaille; and his paternal grandfather Carl Eckstein.

Friends may call from noon to 3 p.m. Friday at the St. Francis of Assisi church at 1200 W. Riverside Ave., Muncie, IN 47304.  A funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Friday with burial following in the Hawk cemetery, north of Yorktown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Indiana Public Radio at L.B. 128, Ball State University, Muncie, IN 47304 or St. Francis of Assisi, 1200 W. Riverside Ave., Muncie, IN 47304.

Arrangements entrusted to Gant Funeral Home, Yorktown chapel.
