Helen W. Hoover

Jan. 24, 1924 - March 17, 2013

FRANKTON, Ind. — Helen W. (Wallace) Hoover, 89, of Frankton, passed away on March 17, 2013 at Community Hospital in Anderson.

Helen was born in Elwood on Jan. 24, 1924, the daughter of George Wallace and Julia (Conard) Wallace VanHorn. She graduated from Wendell Wilkie High School in Elwood in 1942. Helen married Roscoe “Red” Hoover on June 20,1942, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1997.

Helen retired in 1983 from General Cage in Elwood. Helen was an avid horse lover. She used to raise and show quarter horses. She was a member of the Anderson Equestrian Club and the Circle “G” Saddle Club of Marion. She was a member of the Carriage Sleigh Association of Northwest Indiana and the Bluegrass Association of Indiana. Helen was a member of Frankton Christian Church, A.W.P. Card Club, I Delta Hand Club, 50 Plus Club of Elwood, and was a volunteer at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Jim) Wright of Frankton; grandchildren, Angie (Mitch) Dennis of Kentucky, Shawna (Jon) Harrison, Chi Tina Baldwin, and Jason (Carrie) McCorkle, all of Frankton, and Brian (Carrie) McCorkle of Summitville; great-grandchildren, Brandon (Nicole) Banfield, Codey Harrison, Chianne, Shaley Colt Baldwin, Trevor, Tyler, and Trace McCorkle, and Christopher Benjamin McCorkle; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Nell Reif of Florida; and several nieces nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Sherry Davis and Judy McCorkle; her infant son, Ronald Lee; and two sisters and a brother.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Doug Davis officiating.

Burial will follow in the K of P/I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Frankton.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation through the funeral home.
