Nellie J. Foster

Feb. 9, 1922 - Nov. 16, 2012

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — Nellie J. Foster, 90, passed away Nov. 16, 2012, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Elwood, the daughter of John and Margaret (McAdams) Mike, and had resided in Alexandria since 1939.

Nellie was a graduate of Elwood High School, Class of 1940.

In 1987, she retired as a certified respiratory therapist from Community Hospital Anderson after 21 years of employment.

She co-founded the cafeteria at St. Mary’s School in Alexandria along with Sister Caniece. She has been a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Church of Alexandria and the Daughters of Isabella.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, cooking and especially time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Ed Foster of Alexandria (companion, Debbie Asher); two grandchildren, Mikki Snyder (companion, Von Greenhill) and Joey Linder, all of Alexandria; six great-grandchildren, Bobby Yeagy, Bradley Yeagy, Marlissa Reeder, Clohe Reeder, Landyn Linder and Lee Hardcastle; a great-great-grandson, Cayden Yeagy; and special niece, Linda Larrance of Alexandria.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward J. Foster, who died in 1969; daughters, Ruth Ann Foster, in 1995, and Peggy Linder, in 2011; infant brother, Harry James Mike; sister, Ruth Larrance; and half-sister, Elizabeth Compton.

The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Community VNA Hospice

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 820 W. Madison St., Alexandria. Father Dan Duff and Father Philip S. Haslinger will concelebrate the Mass. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Alexandria.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund, with envelopes available at the church.

The care of Nellie and her family have been entrusted to Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria.
